Skin Lesion Excision

Skin lesions are abnormal growths or marks on the skin, such as moles, cysts, or skin cancers. Excision involves the surgical removal of these lesions, often with a margin of healthy tissue around the lesion to ensure complete removal. The wound left behind may require closure with suturing or reconstruction with a skin graft or flap. This is necessary to help with healing and improve cosmetic appearance.

The Procedure

  1. Preparation:

    • Before the procedure, Nada will assess the lesion and surrounding skin to determine the best approach for excision.

    • An injection of local anaesthetic will be administered to numb the area, ensuring you do not feel pain during the procedure.

  2. Excision:

    • The lesion and a margin of healthy tissue will be removed. This ensures complete removal of any abnormal or potentially cancerous cells.

    • The excision site may vary in size depending on the lesion's characteristics.

  3. Reconstruction:

    • After excision, the wound may be closed using stitches, which may be dissolvable or require removal after a few days to weeks.

    • For larger lesions or areas where primary closure is not possible, a skin graft or flap may be used to help the wound heal.
